当铺老板的女儿阿艳（若尾文子 饰）和店内活计新助（長谷川明男 饰）相恋，两人在某个雪夜相约私奔。走投无路之际，他们委身权次（須賀不二男 饰）夫妇的店内居住。这个店三教九流频繁出入，权次亦对阿艳心怀不轨。眼看带出来的钱财将尽，新助有心回到当铺，但任性的阿艳执意不肯。某个雨夜，新助被骗外出，险些命丧郊外，杀人后被迫出奔；阿艳则遭绑架，被卖作艺妓。 为了把阿艳打造成出色的艺妓，流氓头子找来刺青师清吉在阿艳的背部刺上女郎蜘蛛的图案。清吉为自己的作品所迷惑，阿艳也仿佛被女郎蜘蛛的魔性所唤醒一般，开始沉湎于无尽的肉欲之中。她随后更名染吉，流转于各色男人之间，骗尽感情与钱财。某天，四处逃亡的新助终于重逢久违的爱人，他们彼此的人生将朝何处发展？ 根据谷崎潤一郎同名短篇小说改编。
